The text is written in the first person with a conversational tone and informal language. The conceptual framework of the text has been completely changed to emphasize the modern perspective on physics. This can be attributed to the evolution of the field as well as the instructor's experience in teaching physics to non-majors. The organization of the text follows that of the current edition of the AP exam. The book provides a conceptual framework for studying classical mechanics and special relativity in order to understand more about the basics of physics. The chapters are organized in a progressive way to aid the student in understanding the topic. A prerequisite is not required to use this textbook, but some knowledge of Newtonian physics is assumed. The textbook does not provide an in-depth study of the science of science. It is written in a way that the reader can appreciate its appeal, but it does not try to make the reader an expert in physics. The first chapter contains the overall conceptual framework for the text. This chapter is a continuation of the introductory chapter of the previous edition, but it is more detailed and easier to understand. The next two chapters contain the physical concepts for Newtonian mechanics and special relativity, respectively. The book is divided into seven sections for each chapter: Section 1: Conceptual approach. The basic ideas and concepts of the topic are provided. Section 2: Newton's Laws of Motion. The laws of motion and forces that govern the motion of objects are presented. Section 3: Work and Energy. Work and energy are defined in detail and their importance in physics is emphasized. Section 4: Special Relativity. The concepts of space and time are defined and the Lorentz transformation is explained in detail. Section 5: Electric Charge, Magnetism, and Electromagnetic Field. The concepts of electric charge and magnetic field are presented. Section 6: Particle and Wave. A few particles are introduced that can be modeled as waves. Section 7: Quantum Mechanics. The importance of the microscopic world is emphasized, and the quantum mechanical properties of matter are introduced. The book is completely free of mathematics. It is highly recommended that the reader have a working knowledge of Newton's laws of motion and vector calculus, otherwise the concepts in the book will be difficult to understand. The chapters are logically organized and easy to read. A good chapter summary is provided at the end of each chapter. Each chapter begins with the chapter title and a number of key terms.
